Our 21 Month Old Princess

Emmerson is officially in her first 'phase'.... and it hit us like a brick wall. We thought it would fun to introduce her to movies, since she doesn't watch much tv- we thought it would be a real treat! So a few weeks ago we rented a Tinker Bell movie from RedBox... and successfully pushed our daughter into what we now call the "princess phase". Yes, to Emme, Tinker Bell is a princess. She has been talking about "princess" every day, all day, ever since her first princess exposure. It's usually cute or funny, but sometimes very annoying to be completely honest. She has even cried at the tv because she thinks we can magically make "princess" appear on the screen! So we have been reading lots of princess books and playing with princess puzzles, eating off of princess plates, drinking out of princess cups, and telling many princess bedtime stories... it has truly been an interesting experience watching Emme become so engrossed in something. It is somewhat endearing, but I have to admit, I like how she is such a girly, girl:)

Besides being 'all about princesses', Emme has developed the typical toddler attitude and is very opinionated. She is definitely a girl who knows what she wants! Emme walks with a hip sway and swinging arms and looks like she is on a mission... she has a very authoritative swagger that makes me laugh every time we go out in public. If I would let her, she would walk away from me and never look back; we probably need to work on that one- the girl has zero fear!

Emmerson's talking has been getting so much better the last month. She is putting 3 words together and tries really hard to say her ABC's with me... she usually gets restless by the time we get to 'T'. This past week she has started counting things. She can count up to 3 items... but she prefers to say "two", it's her favorite number, so sometimes we get a few "two's" before we make it to three:) We are so proud of her and keep encouraging her to be a big nerd- haha. Emme has also been very kissy. She loves to kiss Tanker and all 20 of her "friends" that sleep with her every night- they must get and give a kiss before she can go to sleep. Emme even likes to kiss her friends in gym class- she picks someone new to kiss each week... I'm not sure why, but I find this so embarassing. The other parents think it's cute, but I'm such a germophobe, I find it weird- I guess the whole concept of kids embarassing their parents is becoming a reality these days:)

Two words that I have recently been using to describe Emme is Drama Queen- she has been fake laughing, fake crying, fake coughing, and literally throwing her head back and acting like she is dying when she doesn't get her way. She doesn't throw the typical toddler tantrums, instead she gets creative and sneaky. When someone tells her 'no', she finds a way to distract them and get to the object that she was originally told she couldn't play with. Just the way she says "no, Mommy" is so insanely dramatic, I wonder where she gets this stuff from! She doesn't watch TV and she isn't exposed to older kids who have these behaviors down... I think she is a natural... a natural "handful"! However, Emme is fairly easy to reason with. If she knows she is doing something wrong, she can easily get over it when either she is removed from the situation or the object is removed from her. Typical firstborn type behavior, I guess.

Emme has been super lucky to spend some extra time with her Meema's and Papa's lately. After a long day at clinicals last Friday, I attended the Scifest Extravaganza event at the Science Center before I had to get up super early on Saturday to head to another long day of clinicals. Kristin went with me and was kind enough to let me crash at her place. We had a great time and I managed to get through the next day on 4 hours of sleep. Emme spent the night at her grandma's because Bryan was out of town this weekend as well! He was in North Carolina for the Nascar race. He was lucky enough to stay at the same resort they filmed the original Dirty Dancing at. I find this so exciting, Bryan really doesn't understand why I feel that way:) Emme and I reconnected later in the afternoon that weekend for a 1 year old birthday party which was a lot of fun becuase Emme had at least 10 of her cousins to play with. Then on sunday we had another party, a friend of mine had her baby shower. Emme had fun there, too- there was a playroom with a million toys in it (the mommy to be's mother hosted the shower and she has a day care). The gender was announced at the shower, which made it far more exciting than most showers- They had a cake dyed to the color of the gender, and then cut it in front of everyong- it was pink! Such a great idea.

Emme also spent another night being spoiled by her grandparents this past week while Bryan and I went on a date to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary! It's amazing that it's already been 3 years. I told Bryan that it's fun counting the years together. It is the most comforting feeling to have my best friend at my side and knowing that we will be counting our anniversaries well into the double digits for many years to come. Our date was the typical dinner and a movie, but I have a whole newfound respect for the traditional 'date night' for the simple reason that I can't remember the last time we did this! We enjoyed some yummy sushi at Drunken Fish in the west end before we walked to the Chase to watch the Wall Street sequel with Micheal Douglas. It was a great movie and I am very biased towards the Chase's theater because they serve Ted Drew's and alcohol. Every St. Louis theater should follow suite... it makes it such a better experience!

This weekend we are enjoying some relaxation at the lake house... time to finish up this super long blog post and get back to doing nothing:)
