The Happiest Anniversary

Bryan and I were very much looking forward to celebrating our anniversary this year. Our dates have been far and few between the last couple of months, and we were finally going to Vin de Set, a restaurant we have been wanting to go to together for awhile now. To makes things even more exciting, our first ultrasound was scheduled for that very afternoon. Little did we know we would be receiving the most shocking and exciting news of our lives that day! Within seconds of starting the ultrasound the sonographer announced we are having TWINS! We honestly thought she was joking at first because they don't run in the family and we hadn't even considered it as a possibility, but I looked at the screen and sure enough- there were clearly two seperate sacs (which really just look like black circles). I giggled the entire ultrasound and Bryan was fairly calm and had somewhat of a distant gaze going on. It's funny looking back at how we handled the shocking news! I was very relieved when our OBGYN told us the twins looked good, both solid heart beats, they are fraternal so they came from seperate eggs, and they have their own sac and placenta... no sharing (other than the uterus) means lower risk. Great news! One of the most exciting things about twins is that we get an ultrasound every 4 weeks because that is the only sure way to measure their growth and development as opposed to measuring the abdomen when their is a singleton. We are already anticipating the next ultrasound and Emme is extremely excited to be a big sister! She is already telling me she is having dreams about how she shares her toys with the babies. It's such an exciting time and we are thrilled to be expanding our family! We have been so very blessed!
