We were scheduled to be induced last wednesday at 8pm so I spent the day relaxing while Bryan was trying to dig my car, which was stuck halfway up the driveway, out of the snow. Surprisingly we received a phone call around 11am from Missouri Baptist saying we could come in early for the induction! Of course we jumped at the opportunity and by 2pm we found ourselves settling into the hospital room where we would be delivering our little girl!
By 3pm the Pitocin (medicine used to induce labor) was running through my IV and Bryan and I were just hanging out. We were listening to the ipod and I was trying to get some last minute reading done for school... yes, I know I am a huge nerd! I was already having contractions when they started the medication, but they were so mild I could barely feel them. By 4pm I was bored so my parents came up and by 5:30ish I was definitely starting to feel the contractions, so I took a nice walk around the floor with Bryan trying to speed things up. Apparently Emme was in no hurry to come out because by 10:30pm I couldn't handle the pain anymore and decided to go with an epidural.
Speaking of an epidural... it was the most fabulous thing EVER. I could look at the fetal monitor and see myself having huge contractions, but not feel a thing. I even got to take a couple naps WHILE I WAS IN LABOR! How cool is that! I don't know why I tried to be a toughy, next time I have a baby, I'm requesting the epidural as soon as I walk in the door!
At 2am I was finally dilated to 4cm. My parents had gone home because labor was taking so long and had requested for us to call them when I was around 5cm so they could come back up for the grand finale! Since I was progressing so slowly, we didn't call them and took another nap. They woke me up at 4am to check me again and I was already dilated to 8 1/2cm! We were shocked and super excited because we knew our baby girl would be here soon! Bryan called our parents to come up to the hospital and by 6:
30am they had me start pushing! By 7am they had me stop pushing because Emme was almost out and my doctor was till on her way. Pretty much, my OB had time to put on her gown, goggles, and gloves and in one more contraction our precious baby girl gracefully came into this world at 7:22am weighing in at 9lbs 5oz and 21 inches long and HEALTHY! She had a full head of dark hair, chubby cheeks that I couldn't help but touch over and over and big feet with long "monkey" toes!
Seeing her for the first time was the most amazing experience of my life. Seeing Bryan's expression as he
looked at our daughter for the first time is a close second. She was perfect and so little and I instantly fell head over heels in love with her! After all this time, she was finally here and we were finally a real family!
