Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten
I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for

On my way home from work today, this song came on WIL and it really hit home for me and in all honesty, it made me well up with tears. Being the sister of a marine sniper who is currently in Afghanistan doesn't help with the emotions this song probably brings even the average American who may have nothing to do with the wars in the Middle East or even with the military at all. I for one have not and will never forget 9/11. And I for one will never stop supporting our efforts overseas. My brother has fought for me, my family, and every other American because of the threats to our national security that were brought on by 9/11. He and every other veteran out there are heroes in my book. They are brave and honorable and I appreciate everything they do for me and my country.
Today I was sure to thank every Veteran I knew and it got me thinking that we should go out of our way to thank veterans every day. Not just today because it happens to be Veteran's Day. I will never forget, while Mom and I were in New York City last year, how she went out of her way to introduce herself and thank every man in uniform she saw. Yes, Steve was in Iraq at the time and it was all we thought about, but it was so nice to see the service men's faces when Mom thanked them. I just know they appreciated hearing that. With so many Americans not understanding their efforts and not supporting their cause, it is more important than ever to let them know they are respected and appreciated. These men and women are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, people they don't even know, including the people who do not support them. Now those are true heroes.
Have you thanked a veteran today?
Happy Veteran's Day
